Week ending 29th January

Things that happened

  • First meeting of our re-formed business analysis community of practice. Lots of lightbulb moments as I heard the other BAs sharing their recent wins, challenges, likes and dislikes. We have so much in common, yet we all have different strengths and interests across the different facets of BA work (processes, policy, tech, data etc).
  • Govcamp was wonderful. I attended two sessions (accessibility and assisted tech, and communities beyond Twitter) and spent the time in-between catching up with friends in small groups.
  • Catch ups with two of our key stakeholder teams.
  • Sought support from senior colleagues, as I could feel myself getting overwhelmed by the scope of alpha and self-imposed pressure.
  • Quarterly development conversation with my line manager. I postponed this by a couple of weeks to give myself thinking time and I’m glad I did, as I was able to articulate my goals and interests more clearly.
  • Finished sifting CVs for roles I’m on interview panels for in the next few weeks.
  • Started house DIY. I’m trying to go slowly and be patient.
  • Two gigs, at Kingsholm Stadium and Cheltenham Town Hall. It’s rare I book a double weekend these days as it’s tiring on top of a full-time job, but the second gig was postponed from the snow in December.

Next week I’m looking forward to

  • Interviewing for various roles. I learn so much from being on the employer side of the table, and enjoy hearing candidates’ enthusiasm for our roles and projects.
  • Making my judging debut for the English Speaking Union’s school public speaking competition. I competed in my teens and use the skills I learned there almost every week at work.
  • Govcamp organisers retrospective.
  • Continued DIY: measuring up for carpets and starting to paint the walls and ceilings.
